The Gauteng Department of Education is a provincial government department under the Gauteng Provincial Government responsible for overseeing and regulating the basic education system in the Gauteng province of South Africa in accordance with the South African Schools Act of 1996. The Gauteng Department of Education is committed to fostering academic excellence and holistic development among all learners in the region. Our vision is to equip students with the values, knowledge, skills, and certifications necessary for their success in adulthood. Our mission is centered on facilitating consistent and high-quality learning experiences within classrooms on a daily basis. Aligned with this vision and mission, our strategic objectives encompass the establishment of effective educational institutions across Gauteng, the provision of relevant and coordinated support services, facilitation of smooth transitions for young individuals from school to further education or vocational opportunities, and the cultivation of strong partnerships with stakeholders. Through these efforts, we aim to elevate the status of education as a societal priority.

The DBE deals with all schools from Grade R to Grade 12, including early childhood development and adult literacy programmes. The aim of the DBE is to develop, maintain and support a South African school education system for the 21st century.

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is a public entity report to the Department of Higher Education and Training. NSFAS provides academic bursaries to South African citizens plan to study at any of the 26 public universities and 50 public TVET colleges throughout the country. NSFAS exists to provide financial aid to eligible students at TVET colleges and public universities; NSFAS identifies eligible students, provides bursaries and collects past student loan repayments to replenish the funds available for future generations of students; and, NSFAS supports access to, and success in, higher education and training for students from poor and working-class families who otherwise could not afford to study.
