A dental filling is a treatment that restores the function and shape of any missing tooth structure resulting from decay or trauma. Bacteria in the mouth feed on the sugars found in food and drinks producing acids that attack the teeth. The acid eats away at the tooth and can cause decay. If the cavity is caught at an early stage, a dental filling can treat the decay. Missing tooth structure can also come from trauma, and in certain situations, these can be restored with a filling. After a cavity is removed, the area must be filled with some material to protect the tooth from further damage. We offer both composite (tooth-colored) and amalgam (silver) restorations. A crown is a permanent covering that is built to fit over an existing tooth damaged by decay or trauma. Damaged or cracked teeth are protected from further harm, and your smile is restored to its full potential. Crowns are made from a variety of different materials. These materials may include porcelain, gold, E.MAX, or Zirconia. East Ridge Dental is proud to offer patients the cutting edge technology of same day crowns. East Ridge Dental offers its patients CEREC CAD/CAM Technology, (a system of four-dimensional imaging, and an actual computerized crown mill in office). Dr. Reckling, Dr. Seaborn, and their highly trained assistants can use this system to scan your tooth and mill the crown in the office. This ensures that your crown fits well, looks great, and saves you time away from work or family obligations. A root canal is a treatment used to repair the most central portion of the tooth if it is injured. The pulp (the central portion that contains the blood vessels and nerves) may need to be repaired due to a crack in the tooth, a deep cavity, problems with a large filling, or a serious injury to the tooth. All of these can allow bacteria to enter the pulp. If the pulp is not removed, the tissue around the root of the tooth can often become infected.
