The purpose is mitigation of greenhouse gases emissions responsible for global warming, and adaptation to the climate change caused by global warming. Climate change is caused by complex interactions between climate, environment, biodiversity, health, society, economy, and technology. The ultimate success of a strategy to address climate change in a sustainable way, whether at the national or international level, requires an approach that takes into consideration such interactions. The approach to achieve design and deployment of sustainable actions to address the challenges posed by climate change requires that science and research are applied to generate modernization and innovation. The incorporation of suitable measures, methodologies, technologies, processes and products in new and existing projects may significantly contribute to reduce our society's vulnerability to the actual and expected changes in the Earth's climate. Implementation of new actions implies mitigation as well as adaptation and encompasses changes as: ways in which natural resources are used and managed; how energy is produced and used; techniques for production of goods; approaches to promote the economic, nutritional and health conditions of communities. Developed and developing countries need to implement mitigating and adaptation activities that also contribute to their growth. Appropriate activities must be favorable for businesses and for the overall development. Due to technological imbalances, technology transfer between countries plays a key role in curbing global warming. Therefore, fostering science, research and innovation in developing countries and transfer of knowledge and technology from developed to developing countries, and increasingly betweendeveloping countries, will be of major importance to mitigate global warming and adapt to the effects of climate change.
