E-MU Systems Information

E-MU Systems is a leading developer of digital audio products to serve musicians and audio professionals. Superb audio-quality and consistent technical innovation have made our products the choice for quality-minded musicians worldwide. Founded in 1971 by Dave Rossum and Scott Wedge, E-MU Systems built its reputation in the 1970's by building modular analog synthesizers and selling them to some of the biggest artists of the day like Frank Zappa and Tangerine Dream, as well as licensing technologies to companies like Oberheim and Sequential Circuits. In 1981 E-MU introduced the original Emulator®, offering musicians the first affordable digital sampler. The ‘80's saw development of E-MU's line of legendary drum machines, most notably the classic SP-1200 drum machine which has become synonymous with Hip-Hop music. In 1989 E-MU released Proteus®, the world's first sound module, and genre-specific modules like Planet Phatt and Orbit, still found in countless studios around the world. E-MU Systems is based in Scotts Valley, California, United States about 50 miles south of San Francisco on the outskirts of Silicon Valley. E-MU Systems has a world-wide presence with a European office, and a Pacific Rim office located in Singapore. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Creative Technology Ltd. of Singapore, created as a result of an acquisition in March 1993 of E-MU Systems.
