DutyDuke is an open-source HRIS built by the team at Bitnoise — a software agency that needed a proper HR tool and couldn't find one worth using. We built it for ourselves first. After 18 months of daily use across our own team, we open-sourced it under the MIT license so anyone can use, fork, and improve it. What it does: employee profiles and onboarding, absence and leave management, document tracking, equipment inventory, benefits administration, performance feedback, and granular role based access control — all in one self-hosted application. What it doesn't do: waste your time. Most HR tools built for small companies are ported-down enterprise software - bloated, slow, and full of features you'll never use. DutyDuke is built for 10-100 people. It's fast, it's focused, and every screen was designed to be obvious on first use. What it also doesn't do: lock you in, charge per seat, or hide your data behind an API you don't control. Stack: Next.js 15, TypeScript, Prisma, PostgreSQL, Tailwind CSS, Docker. License: MIT.
