Dunolly Gardens Owners Corp Information

Dunolly Gardens was designed by architect Andrew J. Thomas and built by the George A. Fuller Company in 1939 for the Queensboro Corporation. It is located in the Jackson Heights Historic District in the NYC Borough of Queens: the property spans the block between 78th & 79th Streets and 34th & 35th Avenues. Dunolly Gardens was the last of the garden apartment complexes to be built by Thomas and is unique in the area for its Moderne style. It is one of the only residential developments in Jackson Heights that covers an entire city block, with its six, 6-storey red brick buildings each comprised of 60 apartments (totaling 360 apartments). The apartments range in size from studios to 2 bedroom/2 baths (See floor plans here.) Building amenities include a full-time property manager and on-site management office, two live-in superintendents, porters for all six buildings, elevators, laundry rooms, storage lockers, bicycle rooms, and recreation room for Dunolly residents. In Scottish, Dunolly means “on the knoll� or a small hill, and was named by Edward A. MacDougall, President of the Queensboro Corporation. With the efforts of an all-volunteer garden committee, our “Small Hill in the Heights� has flourished in recent years. Dunolly's six buildings take up only 45% of the 126,000 square-foot lot, leaving ample green space for landscaped gardens, a central courtyard with cherry trees, park benches and tables, and other green spaces and shaded seating areas. Our gardens feature a diversity of perennials, flowering shrubs and trees, several large deciduous trees, and selected annuals. The commitment to historic preservation, organic gardening, composting, and greening efforts is strong at Dunolly Gardens. In 2015, the garden committee received a Good Neighbor Award from the Jackson Heights Beautification Group for the sensitive renovation of the interior and exterior gardens.
