When Scottish tennis player, Andy Murray acquired Cromlix, close to his hometown of Dunblane, it signalled not only a return to his roots but the chance to reinvent the glorious era of grand country house living.
Following extensive refurbishment, the US Open, Olympic and Wimbledon champion has transformed the elegant Victorian Perthshire mansion into a luxury 15-bedroom and Gate Lodge.
The hotel, which opened in Spring 2014, offers guests the chance to experience the sort of decadent lifestyle once enjoyed by the Lairds of Cromlix, redefined for the 21st century by sumptuous surroundings and impeccable yet discreet service.
Situated in beautiful countryside, just three miles from Dunblane, Cromlix is set in 34 acres of secluded woodlands and garden grounds, with its own chapel and house loch. The hotel offers a restaurant with reasonable priced menus that focus on using seasonal locally sourced produce wherever possible, five suites and ten bedrooms, gate lodge accommodation, reception hall, two drawing rooms, conservatory, dining room, snooker and meeting rooms.
Elegantly re-designed to showcase much of the house’s original heritage, Cromlix has been furnished with specially-sourced Scottish antique furniture.
Commenting on his new venture, Andy said: “By re-establishing Cromlix as a leading luxury hotel at the heart of the Dunblane community we will be able to attract new visitors to the area, create a number of new jobs and focus on supporting other local businesses. I’m pleased to be able to give something back to the community I grew up in.”
The Mount Stuart Trust is a charitable trust founded in 1985 to fulfil the vision of the late John, Marquess of Bute, who believed Mount Stuart, its gardens and collections should be shared with the public.
Thanks to his generous endowment of the Bute Estate, the Trust preserves and opens Mount Stuart House, a spectacular neo-Gothic house on the Isle of Bute, alongside its gardens, woodlands, and internationally significant collections.
Our mission is to conserve and steward the estate for future generations, while promoting access, education and engagement in art, architecture, history and the rural environment. Today, the Trust also supports creative exploration, with a growing programme of contemporary art and cultural events.
In 2025, we celebrate 30 years of Mount Stuart House and Gardens being open to the public. Throughout the year, we’re unveiling special objects and rarely seen spaces from The Bute Collection - offering new insights into our unique heritage, alongside exciting Contemporary Visual Arts and community programmes which, we warmly invite you to join.
