DUKA is an ethical fashion and manufacturing company; fashion that is sourced, designed and manufactured using sustainable business practices that meet social and environmental standards such as fair wages and responsible sourcing. This transparency in DUKA’s messaging is at our core and we constantly strive to improve in every element of our internal and external business practices. DUKA’S mission is to stimulate the economy in developing countries through the creation of a spirited and timeless ethical fashion and manufacturing brand that employs and empowers women. MANUFACTURING: DUKA’s production facility is located on the coast of Kenya, an area that has seen a steady decline in tourism in recent years. DUKA creates permanent employment that is accessible to local residents, both in our production facility and in their own homes. This is critical as it allows rural families to improve their economic circumstances without relocating to cities and sacrificing their familial responsibilities. By developing our ethical production facility we are contributing towards greater prosperity in the region and towards achieving a systemic change in fashion manufacturing and consumption. FASHION: DUKA's original line of one of a kind limited editions has created an allure, demand and validity to our design process. By connecting consumers with authentic textiles worn by East African women we are establishing a strong relationship between producers and buyers. This has set the stage for our line of reproductions, which will showcase our unique anthropological approach to fashion. We are excited to contribute to the record-keeping of traditional life and art in Kenya, and to the knowledge and understanding the world has of East African culture.
