Artefactual Systems Inc. is a privately owned company incorporated in British Columbia, Canada. We provide commercial support for open-source software. We are experts in open-source, open-standard technologies for archival collections and digital preservation. The company was founded in 2000 and has been providing services since that time. Artefactual provides a comprehensive suite of software hosting subscription services, consulting, development, technical expertise, and enterprise support when offline, secure systems and data sovereignty issues are paramount. We are best known for developing and maintaining two open-source software tools, the Archivematica digital preservation system and the AtoM online access system. As free and open-source software tools, Archivematica and AtoM are used by both our clients and non-client institutions around the world. Artefactual has deep ties to the open-source and digital preservation communities and is a member of the Open Preservation Foundation and the Digital Preservation Coalition.

Institutional Repositories have revolutionized online availability of digital (research) content for the world's leading institutions. Through their dynamic nature, repositories are a more effective way of managing digital resources than local databases or archives, since they are interoperable and very easy to use. Many institutions adopt Open Access principles, based on the idea that immediate online availibility of research increases its impact. By actively using repositories, today's academics radically reshape the landscape of (scientific) publishing. As a spinoff company from K.U.
