The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) is a professional association of over 40,000 general dentists dedicated to providing quality dental care and oral health education to the public. Founded in 1952, the AGD is the second largest dental association in the United States, and it is the only association that exclusively serves the needs and represents the interests of general dentists. The Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) is recognized by the American Dental Association as the national certification board for dental assistants. DANB exams and certifications are recognized or required by 38 states and the District of Columbia. DANB is a member of the Institute for Credentialing Excellence. DANB's Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) and Certified Orthodontic Assistant (COA) certification programs are accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
