The Public Schools of Brookline (PSB) serves over 7,500 students in Kindergarten to grade 12. We operate eight elementary (K-8) schools and one high school in the Town of Brookline. Our mission is to ensure that every student develops the skills and knowledge to pursue a productive and fulfilling life, to participate thoughtfully in a democracy, and succeed in a diverse and evolving global society.
Acknowledged as one of the leading districts in the nation, PSB offers an environment that encourages each child to grow and excel. Our schools employ more than 800 full and part-time teachers, counselors, and administrators and approximately 250 support staff. A dynamic, diverse community of educators work collaboratively to innovate and inspire each other and their students. PSB also supports our educators and ensure that there are opportunities for them to grow - with Brookline, with their schools, and especially with their teams. Trainings such as cultural proficiency and restorative practices highlight our vision of improving students’ education for today and better prepare them for the challenges of tomorrow.
From our work as a founding member of the METCO program, a voluntary desegregation program funded by the State of Massachusetts in 1966, we encourage students to question and challenge ideas and participate as active citizens. Schools use a variety of assessments to get the fullest picture of student learning and growth over time. Parents and guardians are partners with the schools in supporting their children’s education. The community, well informed and involved in the schools, supports these efforts that continue a tradition of challenging ourselves to do better, efforts that ensure the enduring value of a Brookline education.
