Humanitas is a highly-specialized teaching and research hospital. It is home to a cutting-edge research center (IRCCS) and hosts the Humanitas University. Humanitas promotes prevention and diagnostic services through innovative outpatient health care facilities. Its innovative organizational design is built around pathology-specific centers, rangingfrom oncological conditions (Humanitas Cancer Center), to cardiovascular, neurological and orthopedic ones. In addition to its pathology-specific centers, Humanitas operates a High-Specialty Emergency Center, the highest level of emergency care recognized in Italy. La Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli, costituita dall’Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore e dall’Istituto Giuseppe Toniolo di Studi Superiori, gestisce l’attività ospedaliera del Policlinico Gemelli di Roma. È dal febbraio 2018 un Istituto di Ricovero e Cura a Carattere Scientifico, IRCCS, per le discipline di "Medicina personalizzata" e "Biotecnologie innovative". Inaugurato nel 1964 e intitolato al fondatore dell’Università Cattolica, padre Agostino Gemelli, il Policlinico A. Gemelli è oggi uno dei principali ospedali italiani e offre assistenza in tutte le branche delle specialità cliniche, compresa l’emergenza urgenza; è riconosciuto tra i principali ospedali oncologici italiani con oltre 40mila prestazioni all’anno ed è centro di riferimento della Regione Lazio per molte attività di alta complessità, come l’assistenza clinica per numerose malattie rare sia pediatriche sia degli adulti, tra cui le patologie neuromuscolari.

The IEO European Institute of Oncology is a Research Hospital (IRCCS) dedicated to the treatment of cancer. At IEO the different areas for the fight against cancer: laboratory research, clinical research, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and education are fully integrated. The Institute has implemented a new standard in the treatment of cancer by making the patient, rather than the disease, the center of its mission (patient’s centrality). Thanks to the prompt transfer of new results from research to clinical activity, the IEO has abandoned traditional therapies based on the maximum tolerated procedure, to apply innovative methods which ensures equal effectiveness with minimal damage to the person.
