The story of Downunder Decorations. For a very long time, we’ve collected Ornaments for our Christmas Tree as Travel Souvenirs. I think our travel tradition started in 2002 when I was in Germany and visited the wonderful Käthe Wohlfahrt Christmas Shop in Rothenburg ob der Tauber. After spending hours in the store, purchased a few beautiful ornaments for our tree and a Pyramid Nativity with candles. On the same trip, because we were travelling with toddler Jord, we also returned home with a Playmobil Christmas Nativity. Something less fragile that a toddler could play with that was less precious than the Pyramid Nativity. Since then, as we visited new destinations on our travels, we’ve purchased a little something to add to our tree. At times, we’ve improvised with key rings and on one recent trip, turned one of our photos into a ceramic ornament. Each year, when Christmas was approaching, we’d pull out the ornaments from our travels and decorate the tree and remember the travel stories that lead to each purchase and memory. We came to notice the smaller towns and cities didn’t have a specific local decoration. We didn’t want a Santa on a surfboard from our trip to Torquay that was made outside Australia and didn’t mention Torquay at all! So, with Toddler Jord who is now an adult, we decided to create Downunder Decorations. We hope you’ll join us on our journey as we gradually create new ornaments for Australian towns, cities and regions to decorate your Christmas tree.
