Dover Army Navy Store Information

Welcome to our web site. It is because of customers like you, that we exist and we thank you for your patronage over the last 45 years. Our business started back in 1963 by our founder Jerome Zaback, an avid military patch collector. During that first year, not only was he active duty with the military but he was also trading in a small, rented stall, amongst many, in a farmers market. In 1964, he decided to incorporate and locate in a Downtown Dover, store front. In 1965, Jerome was able to purchase a larger building in our current Downtown Dover location. The store traded in military surplus and insignia. Servicing both active duty military personnel as well as helping veterans restore their lost insignia from years gone by. It was also considered a real "neat" store for many a child who liked to play G.I. Joe, and still is today. As he entered the mid 1970's, (post Vietnam) many Army Navy stores were transforming into sporting goods outlets. This was resisted by Jerome who very early on, had decided to stay a "traditional" Army Navy Store, only selling military goods, uniforms and insignia. This is what he liked and he stuck to his original ideals. He enjoyed helping out servicemen who really needed his help completing a uniform or acquiring many a name tag in haste. He brought joy to veterans faces when they were able to glance at an insignia once worn proudly on their uniforms. This was and still remains today, the rewarding ideal of Dover Army Navy Store. In 1983, after retiring from a successful teaching career, Jerome stepped into the business full time which expanded the highly successful insignia market we enjoy today. In 1985, Jerome's son, Frank Zaback joined the business full time. Frank brought his professional experience as an accountant, enhancing the day to day operations. Through the 1980's and 1990's, the business expanded to include law enforcement equipment and supplies as well as numerous State of Delaware contracts. A small ad in the P.C.
