Douglas County Sheriff's Office - Kansas Information

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is located in Lawrence, KS and was founded in 1855, which predates the admission of Kansas into the Union. The Sheriff’s Office has primary responsibility for public safety in the unincorporated areas of Douglas County and shares jurisdiction in the cities of Lawrence, Eudora, Baldwin City and three university campuses within the county. The Sheriff’s Office is also responsible for secure detention for all arrestees in Douglas County. The current Sheriff is Jay Armbrister, a native of Douglas County and a 24+ year veteran of the agency. He was elected to office in 2020. The current Undersheriff is Stacy Simmons.
