Dobbie Engineers is a specialist industrial engineering consultancy with a foundation in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, structural engineering, and process design. We are not a generalist firm. We work in heavy industry — dairy processing, refrigeration, energy, forestry, geothermal, and building services — and we know these sectors deeply. Our services span the full project lifecycle: EPCM delivery, conceptual and detailed design, 3D modelling, piping design, process design, commissioning, contract administration, and construction monitoring. We design pressure vessels, tanks, silos, cranes, and materials handling systems. We run HAZOP studies. We consult on ammonia and CO₂ refrigeration. Through our EECA partnership, we deliver energy efficiency and decarbonisation work including electrode boilers, biomass systems, and heat pumps. We have WorkSafe-approved Pressure Equipment Design Verifiers in-house. Founded in 1991, Dobbie has designed six greenfield milk powder plants, delivered 13 major brownfield expansions, and provided engineering services to more than 35 dairy and meat processing plants. Our clients include Fonterra, Open Country Dairy, Silver Fern Farms, Fletcher Building Products, Danone Nutricia, Contact Energy, and OJI Fibre Solutions. We are ISO 9001:2015 certified, Toitū Carbon Zero certified, and employee-owned. Around 30 staff work from our Auckland head office and Rotorua office, professional engineers, graduate engineers, engineering designers, and CAD specialists. Senior engineers stay involved through delivery, not just the pitch.
