Whilst ensuring that Devoran School is delivering the National Curriculum, setting high expectations across the school and raising attainment for all, we are passionate about delivering the curriciulum in such as way so that it is motivating, inspiring, relevant to our unique local context and one that equips children for the future. We are astutely aware that we are preparing children for jobs that have not yet been invented. Our focus on the skills of learning and development of 'how' we learn is fundamental in our approach to future-proofing our children. The views of all stakeholders (children, teachers, governors, parents and members of the community) were consulted to decide what this curriculum might look like, resulting in the 'wordle' below: We have created an inspiring and creative curriculum which encourages deep thinking, an inquisitive nature and promotes life-long learning. Through our curriculum provision, we encourage children to have a greater learner involvement with their work. This starts at the planning stage, where children are encouraged to put forward their ideas of what they would like to learn and through which medium. Using the information gained from 'pre-learning' tasks, children's interests, the curriculum and the school's context, a series of learning opportunities are then planned. Creative homework is set to complement our curriculum and enables children to engage further and deepen their learning outside of the school environment. In addition, there is an expectation that teachers apply English, Mathematics and ICT skills where it is appropriate to do so. Children are encouraged and given time throughout the learning challenges to reflect upon and review their learning. Threaded throughout our curriculum are many opportunities for the safeguarding of children to be highlighted.
