The Environmental Investment Fund is an investment fund, set up under the laws of Namibia, with the express purpose of raising financial resources for direct investment in environmental protection and natural resource management activities and projects which support the sustainable economic development of Namibia.
The EIF invests in and supports projects and activities which promote the national development strategy of the Government of the Republic of Namibia (GRN) but for which the GRN is currently unable to provide the required financial investments.
The Namibia Nature Foundation (NNF) is a not-for-profit, non-government organisation promoting conservation and sustainable development.
The primary aims of the Namibia Nature Foundation (NNF) are to promote sustainable development, the conservation of biological diversity and natural ecosystems, and the wise and ethical use of natural resources for the benefit of all Namibians, both present and future.
The Namibia Nature Foundation was founded in 1987. It was initially established to help the (then) Department of Nature Conservation to raise and administer funds for the conservation of wildlife and protected area management. Since then, the work of the NNF has expanded, in both scope and volume, to encompass the whole field of environment. While considerable emphasis is still placed on the protection of parks and endangered species, the current focus of work is on broad sustainable development: environment and people, environment and development. This is seen in our work in community-based natural resource management, combating of desertification, pollution and waste management, emphasis on policy, training and education, and our grants to initiatives that promote the democratisation of environmental management and that link socio-economic development with sound environmental management.
IRDNC strives to improve the lives of rural people by diversifying the socio-economy in Namibia's communal areas to include wildlife and other valuable natural resources. We believe this will secure a long-term place for wild animals outside of national parks, and significantly reduce future pressure on these areas. We also aim to build up the capacity of rural Namibians, and to assist them to develop a civil society whose members can sustainably manage and benefit from their local natural resources.
