Faced with refugee populations with few immediate prospects of return to their countries, the objective of Design For Peace is to use Crafts as a lever of insertion and economic development. This first edition of the project held in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, gathered 6 French designers and 17 Touareg refugee Craftsmen and women from Mali. During 7 weeks of discovery and intense collaboration we have worked together to develop a collection of objects combining the Touareg's know-how and the designer's expertise & creativity while drawing inspiration from the local environment. The result is a line of refined objects conceived around the theme of Transhumance. Their launch on the international market will allow refugees a stable activity, to durably integrate their host country, to participate in its wealth and gain financial independence.
