Defense Fire Protection Association (DFPA) Information

DFPA, a 501c(3), nonprofit, research foundation and consulting firm described at www.dfpa.org, has actively and successfully assisted the armed services, federal agencies and the private sector improve safety, survivability, fire, blast and chemical biological & radiation (CBR) protection since its inception in 1984. DFPA works closely with VetsSS in particular on converting the war/military industrial complex economy to a peace/green economy e.g. build firefighting aircraft instead of bombers. Served on the National Advisory Committee of the Congressional Fire Services Institute (CFSI) since its inception in 1988 until 2006. Was a FEMA/Fire Administration "Stakeholder". Completed a detailed "Report of the Assessment of Vulnerabilities of Navy Ships to Multiple Threats and Hazards from Multiple Causes and Sources and Recommendations to Reduce/Eliminate these Vulnerabilities" on July 31, 2001, under contract with the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Threats in the report include hijacked aircraft and anthrax in letters. This report provides a framework, unique approaches and specific recommendations for assessing threats and vulnerabilities and improving the security, safety and survivability of ships as well as facilities, buildings, aircraft and ground vehicles. Planned, arranged and hosted live fire training exercises using a Navy mobile firefighting trainer on Capitol Hill for Washington, DC Metropolitan Firefighters on April 25, 2001 (before 9/11), and April 18, 2002, in conjunction with the CFSI Annual National Fire and Emergency Services Dinner. Each year trained approximately 30 firefighters who would have been the first responders to fires/aircraft crashes on Capitol Hill or at the White House.
