Dechen Designs was launched in 2004 to bring the magic of the Himalayas to the United States through the high quality arts & crafts of Nepal. Owner, Dechen Lama was born and raised in Kathmandu, Nepal and lives in Pleasant Hill, California. She has a passion for elegance and believes "how you look tells the world how you feel". Her vision is to inspire and be inspired as she builds a strong relationship based family business that supports Fair Trade. Being a busy mom and an entrepreneur (mom-preneur) herself, Dechen realizes that time is a commodity of the century and has specialized in creating the magic of "effortless and timeless elegance" for busy women with her line of highly collectible accessories -- exquisite Himalayan Cashmere (Pashmina) Shawls, Handpainted Silk Scarves, Sterling Silver Jewelry and Purses You can instantly change your daywear into an elegant evening look with a shawl, pair of earrings and handbag. It is that simple! Its the height of elegance from the top of the world! Dechen came to the United States in 1990 for higher education. A few years later, she became the first woman from Solukhumbu, (a Sherpa Village in Nepal) to earn a Masters from an American University graduating with a BS in Marketing and an MBA from Seattle University. Later she worked in various industry positions such as the International Business Manager for Hexcel Corporation. People travel to Nepal from all over the world to experience the culture and landscape. Dechen has always been passionate about cross cultural communication. As a young girl growing up in Nepal, she learned Spanish, Japanese and Hindi and immensely enjoys her multilingual skill.
