Deborah Ross Information

Deborah Ross is running for the U.S. Senate because she understands that North Carolinians want an elected leader that puts people first. With a father who served as a doctor in the Air Force during the Vietnam War, and a mother who dedicated her time to teaching pre-school and volunteering in the community, Deborah Ross and her brothers were raised to understand the value of public service and hard work, both to the country and to the community. Deborah displayed this same commitment to service in her practice as a lawyer in North Carolina for more than 20 years, specializing in constitutional law, municipal finance, transportation and energy law. She also taught law at Duke University. Deborah represented District 38 in the State House from 2003 to 2012 and District 34 in 2013, working tirelessly to improve North Carolina's economy and give the state's working families a fair shot, strengthen small businesses, increase access to educational opportunity for all, and improve the transportation system in the state. She sponsored legislation to protect victims of domestic abuse and stood up for hardworking North Carolinians against predatory lending practices. She was a leader on ethics reform and election law. After leaving the State House in 2013, Deborah returned to the full time practice of law, serving as the General Counsel for GoTriangle, a regional authority providing transportation services that connect Wake, Durham and Orange counties, and ensuring access to high quality public transit. In the Senate, Deborah will take on the tough issues. She has spent her entire career fighting for the citizens of North Carolina, and she is ready to take that fight to the U.S. Senate where she will work to create a better business environment that enhances economic security, ensure every child in North Carolina has access to quality education, and protect the equal opportunity that America was built upon. Deborah Ross earned her B.A. from Brown University in 1985, her J.D. from UNC at Chapel Hill School of Law in 1990, and holds an Honorary Doctorate in Public Administration from Peace College.
