De Ponte Cellars is owned and operated by the Baldwin Family. Scott and Rae Baldwin purchased the vineyard in 1999 and have put their heart and soul into creating not only a beautiful wine, but also a beautiful property and facility. The name DePonte, which literally translated means "the bridge," honors Scott Baldwin's Portuguese maternal grandfather, Manuel DePonte, who emigrated from Europe in 1920. On a 60 acre farm in the San Joaquin Valley he began the family tradition with his small wine making facility. Manuel's talent as an amateur winemaker made him extremely popular in his new neighborhood and the luscious aromas wafting from his garage winery are some of Scott's warmest childhood memories.
