De gemeente Waalwijk staat meer dan 700 jaar op de kaart van Nederland. Door uitbreiding met de dorpen Sprang-Capelle en Waspik in1997 is Waalwijk momenteel een gemeente met bijna 47.000 inwoners. Waalwijk is goed bereikbaar en vervult een belangrijke regionale functie voor zo’n 100.000 mensen op het gebied van onderwijs, sport, cultuur en gezondheidszorg. Ruim 2900 bedrijven in Waalwijk zorgen voor werkgelegenheid in de regio. Om deze werkgelegenheid te behouden schenkt de gemeente veel aandacht aan de ontwikkeling van nieuwe arbeidsplaatsen. Waalwijk zet hierbij in op de logistieke sector. De realisatie van nieuwe bedrijventerreinen en het revitaliseren van oude bedrijventerreinen maakt van Waalwijk een interessante vestigingsplaats voor bedrijven. Net als iedere gemeente in Nederland werkt de gemeente Waalwijk samen met andere gemeenten. Dat gebeurt met verschillende redenen, op verschillende manieren en op verschillende terreinen. De gemeente Waalwijk werkt nauw samen met buurgemeenten Heusden en Loon op Zand binnen het samenwerkingsverband de Langstraat. Deze regio ligt heel strategisch tussen de regio’s Randstad, Ruhrgebied en de Vlaamse Ruit en vormt in Brabant de schakel tussen Midden Brabant en Noord Oost Brabant. De regio ligt onder de rook van ‘s-Hertogenbosch en Tilburg. Deze twee plaatsen hebben stedelijke kwaliteiten, de Langstraat vult deze kwaliteiten aan en heeft eigen kracht en dynamiek.
