dB Design is run and managed by long time Loudspeaker industry professional Dean Rivera. Dean started his career in loudspeakers with JBL in the mid 70's, where he developed over 100 products into production. He has designed and developed into production several audio products for Telex, Recoton Home Audio, and KSC Industries. In the 15 year period Dean worked in the JBL engineering department, he would design well over 100 products into production, including the well known JBL 4425L & R Studio Monitors as well as many of the low-end and high-end Musical instrument/sound reinforcement systems, including some of the horns and driver components that where used in these systems. Dean also was the key engineer in the THX approved Synthesis 1 Home Theater System, a system that is in the CEDIA Product Hall of Fame. While working at JBL, Dean decided to accept an offer for a Sr. Design Engineer position with Telex Communications. There he would design multimedia speakers and work with desktop microphone products. He would also work with mechanical and DSP engineers to develop the acoustics for top rated high-end aircraft headphones, and for cost effective headphones used in education markets, products Telex is well known for. He would also be involved in improving earset and earpiece products for hearing aid and broadcast communication markets. Product research and development is a part of any new product development cycle, one interesting research project involved working with electrostatic planner devices to produce directional sound. Additional duties included assisting the factory personnel in solving production yield problems related to frequency response failures. Recoton Home Audio would be Dean's next career stop, there he would be involved in designing products for the various brand names owned by the company. This included Acoustic Research (AR), Advent, and Jensen products. Dean worked together with other engineers on the successful AR High-Res Line of speakers, which became the modern day AR10 system utilizing a built in amp powering a side-firing woofer, these systems used a proprietary plasma deposited diamond treated tweeter. Dean became more involved in trade shows such as CES, CEDIA and other Hi-Fi shows, as he began to assist with selling and demo-ing the products he designed and worked on. After Recoton Home Audio, Dean relocated to San Diego, CA where he accepted an Engineering Manager position with KSC Industries Inc., one of the top OEM suppliers of loudspeaker products. At KSC Dean managed engineering, and also designed loudspeaker drivers, in-ceiling loudspeaker products and outdoor loudspeaker systems. He also developed various specialized acoustic products for OEM customers. Dean traveled to China to work with factories and oversaw development and production of new products, being on-site saved development time and avoided production delays. Therefore completing the entire turn-key product development cycle from concept to finished product. Dean was promoted to Technical Sales Director and worked closely with sales to support customers and new product development. Digital amplifier products were becoming more in demand as Class-D technology became more cost effective and reliable. This led Dean to the position of sales and technical support for the digmoda line of amplifier products, a product he continues to sell and provide technical support. After many successful product designs, five awarded patents, the economic slow down in 2008 hit. Dean had considered starting his own consulting business for many years and in 2009 started dB Design. dB Design, in addition to consulting, is currently the sales rep company for digmoda DSP based digital amplifier products. The combination of Dean's loudspeaker and amplifier knowledge has led to the development of many top quality and successful loudspeaker systems and continues today. Be sure to contact Dean at dB Design for your next product.
