Even if 20% of servers where data blocks were dispersed are unavailable due to any reason, the initial data still can be recovered using error correction algorithm. Security. Encrypted data blocks (pieces of initial data) are stored on different servers. Even if the block is stolen and decrypted, it cannot be used without the rest of blocks. Speed. The data blocks are uploaded to different locations using parallel channels, which multiplies upload and download speed. Cost. Initial data is not copied several times. The algorithm adds only 30% of initial data size.
