Dare2Dance Information

Dare2Dance (D2D) is a ground-breaking project which aims to engage and empower girls and young women aged between 14 and 24 through the medium of Street Dance. D2D is a project conceived by independance and developed in conjunction with London Southbank University and Pro Active London. It is funded by The Mayor's Fund , EMDP and Street Games. With a company of the best female Hip Hop artists we deliver Hip Hop dance days, lecture demonstrations, performances, ongoing training and the Battle of the Boroughts Competition. Since 2008, D2D has developed a partnership with 18 Local Authorities. Local Authorities for the 2012 programme include: - Hillingdon / Haringey / Waltham Forest / Tower Hamlets / Sutton & Merton and Lambeth. Dare2Dance was devised and brought to you by : Independance is the producer of the b.supreme Festival, the Dare2Dance project and Studio b. It is one of London's most successful dance agencies, specialising in the development of Hip Hop dance. From the studio base in Brixton, South London, Independance joins access, education, training and performance. Independance runs a number of regular training initiatives and master-class programmes including Urban Aerobics (Freez), Lindy Hop, Salsa weekends, Kids Club, b.diverse and Teacher Training Programmes. Pro-Active aims to: increase participation in sport and physical activity by adults; widen access to sport and physical activity by under-represented groups; engage more young people in sport and physical activity and reduce the drop out as they get older; create better sport and physical activity development pathways. By connecting national and regional policy with local delivery, we are a vital part of the delivery system for sport and physical activity in London, as shown in the diagram below.
