Danir's development is based on involvement in companies that combine growth with quality and pro?tability. The company has expanded through organic growth, entrepreneurship and acquisitions. The story began in 1986 when Dan Olofsson was assigned by Sapia to start a new business focused on technical consulting services. The company was acquired by Dan Olofsson in 1993 and subsequently changed name to Sigma. In 1997 Sigma had around 600 employees and the company's Class B share was listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange's O-list. This was also the period when the key people Anders Johnsson, Gunder Lilius and Göran Larsson joined the business. In early 2001 Sigma's business areas were converted into three new companies: Teleca, Epsilon and the new Sigma. Dan Olofsson became Chairman of the Board for the Group, which by then had 3,300 employees and operations in 13 countries, and the holding company, Danir, was formed. In 2003 Sigma was named the best IT consultancy by 200 major companies and the same year Danir bought out Epsilon from the stock exchange. Danir took a new step in 2004 with the establishment of Thanda Private Game Reserve, a hotel project in South Africa, which was later expanded with further initiatives in the region, primarily within the property sector. The Star School (later Star for Life) project started in 2005 in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. This initiative aims to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS and help young people achieve a better life. Today the project involves more than 100,000 students and is supported by several international organisations. Parallel to this the technical consultant Epsilon developed powerfully. Services within embedded systems was introduced in 2005, and in 2006 the same within IT related services. During year 2008 Epsilon started developing a unique network with external consultants and partners that today comprises about 12,000 individuals in the the Future, Partners and Emeritus concepts. In 2012, Epsilon was sold to the technical consulting group ÅF. As a result, Danir also became one of the major shareholders in ÅF, with 15 percent of the share capital. In Sweden Danir has become involved in a number of new projects. A major project is the establishment of World Village of Women Sports, an initiative that aims to improve conditions for women in sport through encouraging cross-disciplinary research and also includes a large property project with a centre and facilities in Malmö. Uppstart Malmö and Östra Skolan are two examples of deepened involvement in the community in recent years.
