Many current students have followed their parents and grandparents in attending the school. Students come from families where learning and education are highly valued and there is strong 'community feel'. The school motto of 'Resilience, Integrity, Initiative, Care' is regularly demonstrated in the actions of the students. High standards of academic achievement and behaviour are attained by most students. All staff are experienced and dedicated, and collaborate to focus on student improvement through the use of evidence-based, reflective practices and an informed and targeted approach to learning. Specialist Programs are offered in the areas of Italian, Physical Education, Music, Science and Visual Arts. Student Services and Pastoral Care programs support students' academic and social and emotional needs. Children identified as being 'at risk' are managed through a team approach, working in partnership with families and outside agencies, as required. Excelling students are identified and supported at a classroom level and are also nominated for various Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) programs such as: PEAC, Kalamunda Extension Program and School of Instrumental Music. The school enjoys a partnership with schools in the Hills Education Community (HEC) for various curriculum networks, academic and sporting arrangements. Opportunities for students to participate in a variety of supplementary programs including interschool sport, science, spelling, public speaking and the arts exhibitions are offered. All staff work closely with our parents, who volunteer and assist in a range of activities throughout the year. Booragoon Primary School has many attributes that make it a unique, highly regarded West Australian Government School. Children here are happy, and they feel a deep connection to, and pride in their school. We have a number of families with a third generation member attending. Most noticeable in our school is the genuine care and mutual respect between staff and children. Our school, which caters for Kindergarten to Year 6, is situated in the South Metropolitan suburb of Booragoon, a stone's throw from Garden City Shopping Centre. The school was established in 1967 in a bush setting close to historical Wireless Hill Reserve. In 2017 we celebrated our 50th Anniversary, with numerous events and activities organised by our highly committed school staff, School Board and Parents and Citizens Association. The buildings and grounds are well established and maintained, providing and excellent environment for both students and staff. We have four teaching blocks including an onsite Kindergarten, two purpose-built Pre-primary units and a senior teaching block. A multi-purpose building incorporates a Visual Arts room, a Science Lab, an instrumental music room and a fully automated library. We have a focus on culture and the arts, with Specialist areas offered including Music, Visual Arts, Drama LOTE and Science. Some sixty students learn a musical instrument through the (SIM) Schools Instrumental Music program and our String Ensemble and choir are outstanding. Reflecting the fact that we have many high achieving students, our teaching and learning programs are designed to be innovative and challenging.
