We are more than an unforgettable night out, we also help organizations inspire better performance.
We use the methods pioneered on our world-renowned stages to create meetings + events people don’t want to miss (or leave), content that connects because it’s funny and honest, and professional development programs that get people to change—because they get people.
Through hundreds of engagements a year, we drive personal growth and organizational improvement. Interaction by interaction, we help people and companies get better at the things they do every day.
The Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB) is the comedy powerhouse founded by Amy Poehler, Matt Besser, Ian Roberts and Matt Walsh. We run two theatres in New York and two in LA, where we feature improv, sketch and standup seven nights a week. We also operate one of the largest improv training centers in the country, with classroom facilities on both coasts. In addition to our classes and live comedy performances, we work with brands, ad agencies, media companies and universities. We run a branded content unit/TV production studio, plus a touring company that performs at theatres and colleges. And our improv workshops are the de facto standard for corporate training. Established in 1963. Since 1963, the Improvisation Comedy Clubs have remained the premier stages for live comedy in the United States. Over the decades, the talent who have graced Improv stages represent the Who's Who in American comedy. San Jose Improv hosted its first comedy show in November 2002. Located in the heart of "Silicon Valley," the venue delivers a mix of A-list comedy, food and cocktails. The club regularly hosts top tier comedians such as Felipe Esparza, Bobby Lee and Norm Macdonald. San Jose Improv calls the historic "Jose Theatre" home. Originally constructed in 1904, the theater is a turn-of-the-century time capsule featuring a marble and gold leaf lobby, adorned with a curated collection of art telling the stories of the Improv Comedy Clubs and The Jose Theatre. Step into the showroom to find perfect relics of a bygone era-- ornamental plaster details, stamped tin ceiling tiles, and two-stories-tall red velvet curtains flanking the iconic brick wall. In the early 1900s, the theatre featured vaudeville acts and silent films with orchestral accompaniment. Some locals may recall hanging out at The Jose all afternoon, watching kung fu double feature films for under a dollar. For over one hundred years, The Jose Theatre has survived fires, earthquakes, and the sands of time. As home to the iconic Improv brand, the venue is renewed and will continue bringing best-in-class entertainment to audiences for decades to come.
