Our Good and Welfare policies include the Christie Adkin/Beth Lawson Memorial policy: CUPE 951 will continue to promote the cause of organ donation and bone marrow donation in memorial to departed CUPE members Christie Adkin and Beth Lawson who demonstrated extraordinary courage in the face of huge medical challenges and inspired so many of us to become educated about the organ donor and unrelated bone marrow registries. As you might imagine, the waiting list for transplants is long as fewer than 30 per cent of patients who need stem cell transplants are able to find a match within their own families. The rest rely on the generosity of a donor who has volunteered to give stem cells to anyone in need. Please consider learning more and registering as a donor or making a donation to the BC Leukemia/Bone Marrow Transplant Program or registering with Canadian Blood Services One Match Stem Cell and Marrow Network. CUPE 951 also encourages its members to consider registering to be organ donors through BC Transplant. As with bone marrow, finding a match and a donor for can be a challenge for those in need. ***
