The AFT is a union of professionals that champions fairness; democracy; economic opportunity; and high-quality public education, healthcare and public services for our students, their families and our communities. We are committed to advancing these principles through community engagement, organizing, collective bargaining and political activism, and especially through the work our members do.

The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees is Alberta's largest union, representing over 80,000 Albertans who work in government, health care, education, boards and agencies, municipalities and private companies. The majority of AUPE’s members work in the public sector. Members of AUPE work in occupations that include clerical, nursing, social services, trades and maintenance, and technical work, to name a few. Approximately one third of AUPE's total members are direct employees of the Alberta provincial government, working in a wide variety of occupations, while about half of AUPE's total members are employed in the health-care sector.

The Canadian Union of Public Employees is Canada’s largest union. With more than 750,000 members across Canada, CUPE represents workers in health care, education, municipalities, libraries, universities, social services, public utilities, transportation, emergency services and airlines. A strong and democratic union, CUPE is committed to improving the quality of life for workers in Canada. Canadian workers fighting together to form local unions built CUPE.
