Cryogel manufactures Ice Balls for thermal storage and process cooling applications. Ice Balls are four inch diameter (103 mm) plastic balls filled with water. The balls are installed in large tanks and frozen at night with chillers using relatively low cost "off-peak" electricity, so as to store energy in the form of ice. The ice is then melted the following day to provide air conditioning or process cooling, thereby reducing energy costs during the expensive afternoon "on peak" hours. Each ball has 16 preformed dimples to allow for expansion of water/ice inside the balls.
