Crossroads Housing Information

Crossroads Housing is Mason County's ( in downtown Shelton) resource for homeless families in transition. Our mission is to help move homeless families forward in life by helping them achieve greater self-sufficiency and stability through permanent affordable housing. We provide guidance, safe temporary housing, and comprehensive case management, as well as referrals to other agencies providing related specialized care. Our clients are families and individuals who are experiencing setbacks possibly due to job loss, loss of income, catastrophic medical bills, or family break-ups. Our services include housing, case management, guidance, referrals, education in life and parenting skills, employment counseling, and medical advice. The process: what callers can expect. The HCSC is established with the expectation of improving many aspects of housing services, namely, for those seeking help and for those who offer services but who have to prioritize certain populations. For those who call, the HCSC is a centralized resource that seeks to offer help, but not always in the form of financial assistance. The HCSC staffs job is to (a) assess the callers situation, level of vulnerability, and possible resources at hand that may be key in resolving the housing crisis, before considering them for financial help (even if this is what the caller is requesting). For service providers, the HCSC will serve as a clearing house for callers in need, to match up with capacity and resources that are available; but, in doing so, to target and refer those callers who are most in need, most vulnerable, and whom without financial assistance will most likely become homeless and unsheltered. Also, those who are already homeless and unsheltered will be targeted and referred to providers. The HCSC will eliminate the use of chronological waiting lists, which prioritize people using the first come, first served principle; this principle tends to favor those who are more empowered, willing to seek out resources, and proactive in their crises. ...
