Crooked River Counseling PA Information

Having worked outside her home community for a number of years, Catherine decided she wanted to provide services closer to her home. Since she owns a home on Crooked River, and got married "IN" the river, and when it came to name the Agency, she couldn't imagine any other name given the importance the river had to her, and thus Crooked River Counseling was born. It began in a small building on Winter St. in Norway Maine, providing outpatient, group and family substance abuse treatment. In 2007 after other providers voiced a need for more service In the area, Crooked River Counseling added an Intensive Outpatient treatment program (IOP). In May of 2009, Crooked River Counseling partnered with Dr. Craig and Jen Smith from the North Bridgton Family Practice to provide integrated substance abuse treatment within the primary care setting, and expanding services to include referral for patients that needed Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opiate addiction-thus the treatment model of integrated substance abuse treatment within the primary care setting was born. The program continued to grow, and later that year of 2009, Crooked River Counseling moved to a larger space at 39 Western Ave. in South Paris to accommodate the growth. In 2013, the program began another growth process with the addition of another office within Bridgton Internal Medicine, working with Dr. Peter Leighton, providing integrated substance abuse treatment for patients he provided Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) to. In Early 2015, Crooked River Counseling recognized it would be more beneficial for clients that our main office be located in the Bridgton community. So in March of 2015, Crooked River Counseling moved onto the Bridgton Hospital campus. In May of 2015, we expanded our services and were granted a mental health license, focusing on the co-occurring population. Later that year of 2015, another physician wanted to begin providing MAT for his patients, and again, Crooked River Counseling answered the call. We opened an office within the Fryeburg Family Medicine practice, working closely with Dr. Eric Slayton, to provide the same integrated care that had been so successful within other primary care practices. In August 2016, Crooked River will again expand, and open an office in Rumford, working with Swift River Medical Practice and the Rumford Hospital. Our Rumford location will provide all the same services Crooked River Counseling in Bridgton provides, including Intensive Outpatient Treatment (IOP). CRC employs both substance abuse and mental health professionals in order to provide the best care possible. We focus not only on the substance use and mental health disorder, but also take a holistic approach to treatment by incorporating the 5 dimensions of wellness into all treatment. Our hopes for the future are that medical practices throughout Maine will adopt this model of care for all of Maine people that need treatment for substance use and mental health disorders.
