Crim Fitness Foundation Information

The Crim Fitness Foundation cultivates accessible, vibrant communities in Flint and Genesee County that encourage people to lead healthy lifestyles by integrating physical activity, healthy eating, and mindfulness into their daily lives and mentors other communities to do the same. The Crim uses events, programs, and policy, systems, and environmental changes to transform the culture of health in the communities it serves. HISTORY: The story of the Crim begins in 1977, when former Speaker of the House Bobby Crim organized a 10-mile road race to raise awareness and funds for the Special Olympics. The Crim Festival of Races was soon born and now is a three day event including 1-mile, 5K, 8K and 10 mile races. With great turnout for the Festival of Races, it became clear that Flint was ready for a change in health and fitness. In 1995, the Adult Training program was launched and In 2001, the Crim's Youth programs were established. In 2005, the Crim Fitness Foundation was founded and the Crim board of directors hired the organizations first CEO. Over the years, the Crim has evolved into a nonprofit agency taking a holistic approach to addressing the obesity epidemic in Genesee County. Today the Crim seeks to create healthy, accessible and vibrant communities.
