Community Resilience to Extreme Weather (CREW) was formed in early 2014 as a grassroots response to climate change and the extreme weather events of 2013. CREW recognizes that changing weather provides an opportunity to engage people in a conversation about emergency preparedness while also raising awareness about extreme weather and its relationship to climate change. We are currently steering a number of initiatives that motivate/facilitate change. As a volunteer-run organization, our committed and talented volunteers drive our projects and help ensure that we are strongly tied to the communities in which we work. Our objective is to work with numerous stakeholders to help Torontonians prepare for the effects of extreme weather. CREW’s current projects include: - Climate Change Community Health Profile: Pilot for Ward 13 - A scholarly review leading to a report on social capital and community resiliency as experienced in other cities and its relevancy to Toronto - Two community engagement initiatives (piloting in Victoria Village and Ward 13): 1. Community Stakeholder Networks 2. Senior floor captains/extreme weather volunteers
