Established in Wellington in 1990, L’affare is a pioneer of New Zealand’s celebrated café and coffee culture. Driven by an insatiable curiosity, we’ve covered the globe to bring the best and freshest coffee to New Zealanders. Our iconic café in College Street remains in its original location 27 years later. And in March 2016 we opened the door to our flagship Auckland roastery, café and HQ in Newmarket. Today we continue to roast locally and we continue to explore the world – all in the name of coffee. Purveyors and pushers of NZ's finest coffee - Atomic Coffee Roasters opened its doors on Ponsonby Road in 1992 – back before café culture was a thing. We were the scruffy kid, pumping out live music and top-notch coffee from between fine-dining restaurants. As we hit full steam, the queues grew longer than our slice of the strip could handle. So in 1995 we made the move to Kingsland, finding our groove as part of this creative, eclectic community. It was time to grow up, and we poured our energy into crafting uncompromisingly good coffee. We held nothing back, roasting into the wee hours, experimenting, testing and tasting until our beans were the best. As well as our Kingsland roastery, we now operate three bustling espresso bars in central Auckland, where you won’t need to comb your hair or hide your tattoos to fit in. You’ll also find our small-batch, hand-roasted coffee in hundreds of cafés across New Zealand. We’ve built our reputation on rich, robust flavours that are grounded in expertise.
