CPAU, the Co-operation for Peace and Unity, promotes the knowledge and awareness of peace, social justice, and human rights as the foundation of Afghanistan’s future development. Through local engagement and active peace building efforts, CPAU hopes to contribute to the creation of a viable and sustainable alternative to war and violence. CPAU strongly believes that: - Violence is not a solution to any problem - Equal opportunities for women and men are imperative to enable active participation in all of the processes that affect their lives - Mutual respect, tolerance, and constructive criticism are essential for meaningful development - People have the right to freely elect their political leadership and to practice different political, cultural and religious beliefs. - Everyone has the right to develop their own identity without fear of discrimination CPAU builds, trains and supports Peace Councils, delivers education and workshops on human rights, women’s rights equality, conflict resolution and legal awareness, and provides linkages and support workers for the informal and formal justice systems. CPAU has developed strong and deep community ties throughout Afghanistan, and as such has been well placed to conduct primary research into areas such as Justice Mapping, Conflict Analysis, Drivers of Radicalization – working with a variety of national and global partners, organizations and governments
