The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) is situated in Akure, Ondo State, in the southwestern part of Nigeria. FUTA is a comprehensive public institution established in 1981 as one of the three key universities of technology in Nigeria. FUTA is organized into ; School of Agriculture & Agricultural Technology, School of Computing, School of Engineering & Engineering Technology, School of Earth & Mineral Sciences, School of Environmental Technology, School of Management Technology, School of Life Sciences, School of Physical Sciences, Institute of Technology Enhanced-Learning and Digital Humanities College of Health Sciences as well as several centers of excellence in research. A top ranking university in Africa, FUTA has a rich tradition of excellence. In 2004, the National Universities Commission of Nigeria conducted a comprehensive review of the 94 universities in Nigeria and ranked FUTA as the best university of technology and the third best university of agriculture in the country.
