Council for Heatlhcare Regulatory Excellence Information

The Council for Healthcare Regulatory Excellence oversees the nine health professional regulators on a UK-wide basis. It is an independent organisation, conducting Performance Reviews of the regulators and reporting results to the parliaments and assemblies of the four governments. It has statutory powers to review results of all the reuglators' Fitness to Practise decisions, making appeals to the high court when in the interest of patient safety. It delivers advice to governments, employers and reguators on regulation and can conduct special enquiries into the regulators when requested by the health secretaries of the four UK governments.
