When a child is baptized in the Presbyterian Church, the congregation commits to stand with and to help the parents in nurturing that child in the faith. Though it remains primarily the responsibility of the parent, the church has an obligation to assist the parent in this great undertaking. The following are some of the ways that Graves Memorial Presbyterian Church has chosen to fulfill this privilege and obligation. Sundays 9:45 - 10:30 a.m. Our weekly program of more structured systematic study is held on Sunday mornings from 9:45 - 10:30 a.m. Sunday School is provided for all age groups. Feasting on the Word is the curriculum currently in use. Present Age/Grade Groupings and Locations: Bibles are presented on Promotion Sunday by the congregation to those entering the 1st grade. Each summer grades 1st - 5th are combined for a summer of exploring different topics. Some topics in the past have included a study of missions and the Ten Commandments, as well as competition in Bible memory games such as Bible Baseball and Bible Soccer. Crib and Toddler childcare is provided during Sunday School and the 11:00 a.m. Sunday worship service. A staff person, assisted by both youth and adult volunteers, is in charge of the crib nursery during the Sunday School and 11:00 a.m. Worship. Additional nurseries are provided as needed for occasional church functions. Worship Readiness is a program designed to assist parents of children from age 4 through grades 1 in teaching their children concerning worship. The program is conducted during the 11:00 a.m. worship after the children are released following the Children's Moment. It includes a familiarization with the basic creeds and liturgy of our church: the Lord's Prayer, the Apostles' Creed, the Gloria Patri, the Doxology, etc. Parents rotate leadership on weekly intervals. Children are picked up from the middle upstairs room in the sanctuary building following Worship.
