Bob Acton Sports, formerly known as “Hockey and Homework” and “Beaches Sports Academy” was founded in 2003 by Bob Acton. What started as a simple after school program involving one hour of hockey and one hour of homework, has now developed into a staple for hockey and lacrosse development in the Beaches Community. “Our goal at Bob Acton Sports is to develop talented hockey players, but also happy and confidents ones. It is important to note that we’re not here to trying to develop strictly elite hockey players, we are trying to develop any boy or girl to play hockey for the rest of their life. We develop kids and the ones that really want to chase the dream, we make sure that we’re moving forward and providing the mentorship for them… it goes way beyond the hockey. Parents need advice for where their kids want to go, whether its possible school opportunities, scholastic opportunities, junior programs… and we have a plethora of experience within this field. We don’t want to look at this as a hockey program as we do a lot of dryland programs, lacrosse programs, ball hockey programs… we simply want to be a place in the area where parents trust us and develop some really good life skills”. “A lot of people talk about the hockey, but we want to develop people who can give back to the community. We want them to really help kids and we want them to tell their stories. Maybe they were intimidated by Bob Acton and his sternness or discipline, but later on they realize that my bark is much bigger than my bite. Torjager Hockey began as a small one week hockey camp in NW Calgary. It grew slowly the first couple years then took off with its unique half day camps and proficiency for details. Later, with the addition of the private training sessions and work with various associations, it then began to grow rapidly. We now run camps, private training and teams sessions all over Calgary and many of the surrounding cities. We work with various hockey associations all over Alberta, Montana, The Yukon, NWT, Nova Scotia and Internationally. We work with Argentina's Men's and Women's National Hockey teams and help out with their Inline Hockey teams. We have also trained members of Canada's National Women's Hockey team.

This year we celebrate our 47th consecutive year enjoying the company of young hockey hopefuls and their families. We are extremely proud of our past and the fact that we have had an impact on over 55,000 players throughout these years. That being said we are marking this milestone with enthusiasm and optimism as we expand and strengthen our partnership with Hockey Alberta to ensure we remain among the leaders in player and now, coach development. •First Camp was hosted in 1975. •Over 55,000 students have attended. •Students have come from over 18 Countries from every Continent, 16 American States, and every Province and Territory in Canada. •Goaltender Hockey Camp started in 1983. •Jasper Hockey Camp opened in 1996. •All Girls Hockey Camp started in 1998. •Contact Confidence Specialty Clinics introduced in 2009. •Hockey Alberta Development Partnership pilot project implementation 2012. •Hockey Alberta Official Development Licensee Partnership formulated 2013. In keeping with that “Tradition” and looking to the “Next Generation” the partnership with Hockey Alberta is monumental as it gives the Camp access to the very latest appropriate training philosophies and technology. That information is captured in Hockey Canada’s’ “Long Term Player Development” document and is the basis for our program. The basics are as follows: •Age and skill appropriate training and development…on and off the ice. •Focus on age appropriate training to ensure the participant develops as an athlete and acquires the skills necessary to play and enjoy hockey. •Encourage hockey leaders (coaches, parents and other champions) to understand and value the importance of all-around development…delivering hockey specific skills at the right time in a young player’s career.
