For 40 years, HealthConnect One has advanced respectful, community-based, peer-to-peer support for pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, and early parenting. As we mark our anniversary in 2026, we are not looking back so much as forward: the next 40 start now. Founded in 1986, our work centers the community-based doula, a trusted peer who supports families through pregnancy, birth, and the early months of parenting. We invest in this workforce because we know that when community leads, life follows. Today our reach extends across 27 states and more than 100 communities, advancing doula workforce development, maternal health policy, and the integration of community-based care into hospitals and health systems. Our approach taps the powerful resources that already exist in neighborhoods. By supporting and training people to find their own voice and share vital knowledge close to home, we help communities care for their own. By providing training and technical assistance to frontline organizations, we strengthen the work already taking root. And through grassroots consensus-building, we carry community wisdom into national conversations on policy and practice. This is the power gap, not the service gap: credentials and clinical systems matter, but they should amplify community trust, not replace it.
