In this year-long, student-directed program, CommuniCare groups act as "mini-foundations." Students begin the year by selecting a community issue or service area they feel passionately about. Groups are guaranteed $7,500 from The CARE Foundation for their grantmaking and can double those funds by raising an additional $750, which CARE matches 10:1, up to a maximum gift of $15,000. Students spend the rest of the school year completing the grantmaking process – learning more about their service area, evaluating grant proposals, meeting with representatives from nonprofit organizations that have applied for funding, and deciding which to fund. CommuniCare currently supports 70 student groups across 37 partner schools.
