Currently, 1 Billion of us live in slum conditions. UN HABITAT indicates if no action is taken, our world will hold 3 Billion slum dwellers by 2030. We need solutions that can reach scale- and urgently. At CommonThread, we're inspired and motivated by informal settlement communities who are taking matters in their own hands- organizing, problem-solving and upgrading their infrastructure, housing and public spaces, while simultaneously building social cohesion, economic opportunities and skills, and long-term sustainability. We envision the community level as the 'middle ground of action,' where organized community based organizations can tap into top-down resources and expertise for delivering more effective, more sustainable improvements at scale.
