Many of the world’s most important systems weren’t designed to work together. Identity, financial history, land records, certifications, program participation, and other forms of trusted evidence remain fragmented across organizations. As a result, institutions struggle to coordinate, individuals repeatedly prove the same information, and trust becomes expensive to establish. Commonlands is building shared trust infrastructure that enables trusted organizations to issue portable, verifiable evidence of real-world actions and outcomes while individuals retain ownership and control of their own data. Rather than replacing existing systems, Commonlands connects them through a shared layer of trust. Organizations contribute verified evidence with user consent, creating records that can be independently verified and used across institutions, sectors, and borders. This strengthens governance, reduces fraud, prevents duplication, lowers the cost of verification, and expands access to opportunity. Our initial work focuses on financial inclusion, digital identity, land-linked systems, and development programs in East and West Africa, but the infrastructure is designed for any ecosystem where organizations need to exchange trusted information without relying on a single owner. We believe the future isn’t built on organizations owning more data. It’s built on people owning trusted evidence that works wherever opportunity exists.
