COMFORT HOUSE SERVICES INC Information

Located in McAllen Texas, Comfort House is a 10-bed homelike residence for persons in terminal stages of illnesses such as cancer, AIDS, heart disease, non-infectious respiratory disease and congenital conditions. We warmly welcome persons regardless of race, faith, persuasion or economic status. Generally, residents are admitted when they no longer seek a medical cure and their life expectancy is less than four months. In many cases, a family does not have the physical, financial, or emotional resources to provide total care at home. When a loved one becomes a resident of Comfort House, trained staff and volunteers are available to provide round-the-clock care. Family and friends are encouraged to participate in providing care as they are able and to be part of the household, surrounding the resident with love. At the same time, the family also receive hospitality and support to sustain them during this special time of need. At Comfort House, we accept dying as the final stage of life, a natural process neither to be prolonged nor shortened by artificial means. With this understanding, our residents and/or families help choose the course of their care. Our pledge is to keep our residents as free of pain and discomfort as possible and to be a loving presence at all times. We recognize and respect the different emotional and spiritual needs of our residents. Christians believe that, in death, life is transformed by the power of Christ.
