At Envato, creativity isn’t just a buzzword—it’s our heartbeat. In 2006, three entrepreneurs set out to stir up the creative landscape from a small garage in Sydney. Fast-forward to 2025 and we're the all-in-one creative asset toolkit.
Icons8 is:

• A community that generates the icon ideas
Icons8’ Impact
Thousands of great websites and applications use our icons - we see a lot of them in our digital life. More to say, we see our icons merely walking by the city: signs, ads, posters — our icons form a part of the urban landscape.
City authorities use our icons too; for example, Malaga has used our icons for anti-domestic violence campaign. Think icons can’t beat violence?
Icons8 Story
We work with icons full time since 2001. Being 1 of 3 leading designers of the time, we had a choice to work for the clients like Oracle, Motorola, Europol, and thousands of other clients.
Many icons were the same as for different clients, and many were quite similar to the ones we’ve already done. I was sure they would be useful for others.
So, we've (We were an agency of 3 people at the time) compiled a collection of 200 icons and published it for free. The effect was overwhelming. We felt that we made something that people need. Over the period of a year, we've closed all other projects and concentrated on Icons8.
Community
While working on Icons8, we've interviewed dozens of great designers in front-end development, then front-end. In other words, we owe our community; we owe people that helped us during these years, those who helped us with support, endless hours of usability studies and interviews, with the credits for our work, and for the money that they paid for our licenses.
We're looking for an opportunity to pay back for all the support. We give the icons to the open source projects for free. We develop Open Source, and we help students with the free licenses - I know how it is, trying to design and code with a student's budget (Photoshop cost $600 at the time, so let me admit it: I used a cracked version)
Noun Project launched in 2011 to build a global visual language that unites the world - a language that allows quick and easy communication no matter who you are or where you are. Since then, our community of creators has built the most diverse and extensive collection of visual language in the world, used by nearly 10 million people. In 2016, the team behind Noun Project launched Lingo, a modern digital asset manager used by some of the world’s best-known brands including Target, Headspace, LinkedIn and Salesforce.
We believe that visual language has the power to shape, reinforce, and change perceptions. Through initiatives like Iconathons, community design workshops, and the Redefining Women collection, we have been building the most extensive and diverse collection of icons ever created. To further support our vision, in 2020 we launched Noun Project Photos — a mission-driven, art-quality collection of photos celebrating diversity and representing a more inclusive world.
Noun Project and Lingo are led by co-founders Sofya Polyakov and Edward Boatman. Based in Los Angeles, California, Noun Project has been recognized as one of the top 100 places to work in the city.
