Jagiellonian University, founded 1364, is the oldest university in Poland and one of the oldest worldwide. The research and teaching activities are conducted at 15 faculties, including the Medical College (Collegium Medicum). Over 3,700 researchers work at the university and the total number of students is about 50,000.
University of Warsaw, established in 1816, is the best and largest Polish higher education institution, educating to almost 40 000 students. In international rankings, UW is the top one among Polish universities. Over 200 study programmes are offered at 25 faculties and 30 scientific and didactic units. The University is one of leading research centres in the country. Its IT specialists, archaeologists and physicists, but also specialists from other fields, achieve international success and recognition. It is here that the piano genius, Fryderyk Chopin, studied; moreover, Nobel prize winners: Henryk Sienkiewicz, Menachem Begin, Czesław Miłosz, Józef Rotblat, Leonid Hurwicz and Olga Tokarczuk obtained their education here.
